CHARLOTTENBURG. The Charlottenburg District is situated north of the famous Kurfürstendamm, one of Berlin''s major shopping areas that developed in the West during the years that Berlin was divided. This part of Berlin is also home to some fine bookshops, bars and restaurants, mainly around the Savignyplatz, whose cafes and restaurants have been popular meeting points for artists and writers since the 1920s.
